What Is EvilAI?
EvilAI is a malware campaign specifically designed to look like a legitimate AI productivity or connector tool. These tools often present themselves as workflow connectors, document summarizers, or AI assistants, exactly the kind of software a busy wealth management team might download without a second thought.
It features professional interfaces and valid digital signatures, meaning it looks and feels like real software. That is what makes it dangerous.
Once installed on a device, it does two things immediately:
It steals your browser data. Saved passwords, session tokens, autofill credentials, and browsing history are all at risk. For a wealth management firm, that means client portal logins, custodian access, and internal systems could all be compromised in minutes.
It opens a back door. EvilAI maintains encrypted, real-time communication with attacker-controlled servers, allowing criminals to send commands, monitor activity, and deploy additional malware at any time.
The firm may not know anything is wrong until the damage is already done.

3. Make sure you have active endpoint detection. EvilAI was caught in our client’s environment because CrowdStrike was running and our team was monitoring. Firms without that layer of protection may never know they were compromised.
4. Review browser-stored credentials. If anyone on your team has saved passwords in their browser, those should be moved to a proper password manager and removed from the browser immediately.
