AlphaSense Breach Another Example of How No Firm is Safe

In December, a potential data breach of AlphaSense, a technology firm with clients in the asset and wealth management industries, was declared on a hacking forum.

At the time, the hacker was demanding 10 Bitcoins to delete all of the data (or was selling the data for 1 Bitcoin).

This highlights once again how resourceful criminals are in terms of getting access to a company’s data. Regardless of how sophisticated the company is, and the technology defence and processes they have around cybersecurity, vigilance and diligence are constantly required in order to minimise the chances of something like this happening. Additionally, it reinforces the need for those in the asset and wealth management industries to conduct cybersecurity due diligence on their service providers.
