QR Codes Continue To Be a Source of Cybersecurity Risk

QR Code

Have you recently received an e-mail with an embedded QR code in it? If not, you will. QR phishing, or ‘Quishing’ as it is now called, is the latest of a new type of phishing attack that is proving extremely successful (for criminals).

In summary, most e-mail filters do not recognize QR codes, allowing the malicious codes to pass through into your e-mail untouched. Once they are in your inbox, criminals are hoping you’ll break out your mobile phone to see what the code says. And that is where the phish becomes malicious. Whether it’s a malicious link or a link to a malicious site, you should never respond to any e-mails containing QR codes.
